Poetry for Rosie
Rosie inherited our family's love for poetry. She wrote many poems. I decided to add a poetry page to our site because we now have a huge collection of poems written by our family and Rosie's friends which I think should be shared.

I have chosen just a few to start with but we will add more to this page.

Here is Rosie's earliest poem. Written when she was six years old.  It is, unsurprisingly, entitled The Rainbow.

This was written by Rosie herself, age 10 as a piece of school homework. Because the words were so poignant it was read at the celebration of Rosie's life.

A Dream?
by Rosie Mayling

I wandered through a city strange,
Not knowing where I was.
Huge spheres and turretsI saw arranged,
I felt so odd because,

I was small and they were huge,
Taller than the Eiffel Tower.
Rockets were zooming through the air,
They ran on magic power.

All I could see were globes and circles,
Orbs and spheres as well,
This was a dream that when I'm old,
I'll remember very well.

I felt myself rising up and up,
To the top of the turrets tall.
I could feel myself flowing down and down,
Like a bird with no wings did I fall.

Suddenly I landed on,
A big white puffy cloud,
I opened my eyes, and there was a gate,
And I nearly cried aloud.

I'll never forget my happy life
I think that I'm in heaven
O whoop's I'm in a hotel bed
In the southern part of Devon.

To Rosie
By Emma Trott

To Rosie, My hero,
Everyone's star.
Why did you have to let go?
To explore space?
To touch stars?
To fly way up above MARS!!
I am sure we can all feel the sting,
It hurts more than anything.
A slow Redroofs year has passed.
We're all A's now [so are you !].
I still believed you sat next to me.
And I still do.
We take each day as it comes
And take what life brings
But we would all like to thank you,
THE WIND BENEATH OUR WINGS!!

Panto Time
By Carolyn -Rosie's Mummy

I am dancing with you always,
I am waiting in the wings,
Anywhere and everywhere,
Every song the chorus sings.
I am part of every actor,
Every dance and every song,
All the backstage fun and laughter,
And on stage where I belong.
All the jokes that Jodie thinks of,
Give a thought and I'm around,
In the spotlight, In the shadows,
If you quickly turn around.
I'm the baddie with Paul's villain,
I'm the gas with Scott the dame,
I play the fool with Paul and Nessie,
Always ready for a game .
I'm the hug that Maddy gives you ,
And the Babes lost in the nigh.t
I can fly like Robin Redbreast,
Round and round in the spotlight.
I'm the spirit of the dance,
I'm the harmonies we share,
I will never ever leave you,
Though the parting was unfair.
I'm still writing notes with Grandma,
At rehearsal though its tough,
For you cannot really see me,
But I'm here that's true enough.
Feel my hand in the finale,
I'm the reason for the rhyme,
When the tags are read I wrote them,
Like I did last panto time.
I'm the one who pulls the curtain,
At the end of every show,
And I take the bows with all of you,
When it is time to go.

Keep your butterfly close
by Emma Trott October 2005

Keep your butterfly close
Let it watch and follow you
Let it dance and flitter in the wind
let it be with you whatever you do
Let it protect you when your scared
Let it make you feel at home when your not
Let it make you feel much much better
When you all sick and Ill and hot!
Let it be with you when your alone
Let it be with you when your with friends
Let it be with in all your happy photographs
smiling at the camera lens
Suss out which your butterfly is
and always keep it in sight
I keep my butterfly close
and it has wings of white

Purple Flash
by Jodie

sitting here now,
not sure what to write?
please inspire me
or flash the light

i will never forget
that purple ball
it shone so bright
but quick to fall
was it you?
were you really here?
it feels so nice to know your near!

By Charlotte Tait -July 2003:

Rosie & Tessie are together again
And that is the way it should be
Because they were the greatest of friends
And apart they were unhappy

Together they are great
I wonder - did Tessie bark at Heavens gate
Did God stroke her head and say
"Rosie's this way"
"Come and see her and play"
"Forever and a day"

Together they look at us earthlings below
Rosie's Mum, Dad, Sister and friends
Perhaps they are hoping that we will all know
They are happy together again

Also I'm sure, in that Rainbow land
She smiles down on us all below
And perhaps she'll send signs
To our open minds
To confirm things we already know

She's around us all day
And that's how it will stay
She watches us all come and go
And maybe she wants us to know she's OK
When our thoughts ponder on her for a while
Cause I'm sure were she here
she'd say with no tears
look up at me with a smile........

We think of you often sweet Rosie.

Rosies Rainbow
by Emma

Sliding down the rainbow so fast
splashing colours everywhere
look its Rosies rainbow
in the air

Zooming down the rainbow
what does Rosie see
all her friends
including me

All of Rosies Rainbows
bring happiness joy and laughter
then the sun comes out
so she can smile for a bit after!!

Drip Drop
By Rosie Mayling [ age 10]

Its always the same at breakfast,
Its always the same at tea,
Its always the same at lunchtime,
Its my brother Ben you see.

"Close up your mouth Ben!
Your mouth Ben!
Your mouth Ben!
Oh
"Please close up your mouth Ben
Oh do it just for me"!

We glued his mouth at Breakfast,
We pinned his lips at tea,
We stapled it at lunch time,
Oh Ben please close it for me"

Pretend to be a rabbit Ben,
A rabbit ben,
Chew nicely Ben!
Oh please eat politely Ben
Just do it now for me!"

Then Dad said " Ben do you want some soup?"
" Do you want some soup?"
" Do you want some soup?"
And Ben cried " yes i'd love some soup"
"i'd love some soup yes please!"

So Ben took a spoon then,
A spoon then,
A spoon then,
So Ben took a spoon then he did it for Dad and me.

And then Ben choked then,
Choked then
Choked then,
And then Ben choked then,
He should have swalloed properly.

He eats as politely as an angel now
Shines as brightly as a star
But as his brother i do know
He wont get very far.

DEAF

I cant amagine what its
like to be deaf

of stress. They must
have siganles. or something

A Girl with Flowing Hair
By Zoë Hart

A girl with flowing hair,
Sat on top of a rainbow,
Watching people pass beneath,
Watching people grow,
A light shone all around her,
Red, yellow, orange ,green,
All the colours of the world,
All the colours ever seen,
Her hair was in two pigtails,
Shining in the light,
Her socks went right up to her knees,
Patterned with coloured stripes,
She smiled at her friends below,
Knowing they were fine,
She looked at the people she loved,
Watching all of them shine,
That's how I think of Rosie,
In my heart she'll always be,
I saw a picture in my mind,
I think it's called a dream.

First Christmas
By Aunty Sam

First Christmas.
This Christmas the trimmings have fallen away,
But here a new Christmas breathes
There can be no more,
Of what we had.
No-ones fussed,
About what they receive.
But our tree has been dressed by our wide eyed children, To the music of Rainbow Light.
And with a grown-up wisdom,
Too shockingly early,
They dance by the tree at night.
And while we look up,
For your star in the black,
We know we must look forward.
We cannot go back.
So drop down a signal,
So we know you are here,
It will make us feel safe if we sense you are near.

The Faun
By Michael

A faun stood by a quiet lake
He is undisturbed by a butterfly playing
He is staring at the water's breathing,
Peaceful, with just some tiny disturbance by little bug's touching feet.
"How wonderful this life" he thought
Just then he started to realise the magnificence
Of his own experience

He became a part of everything that surrounded him.
He floated with every dragonfly
Touched every leaf with the soft breeze
Even danced with the butterfly

He felt his soul touch the sky
Stretching over the lake
And suddenly he was not just a faun
He was everything

He was stripped from all fear
He did not care for anything else
But this moment
The glory of feelings
To feel complete

The air he breathed was light
And easy,
His spirit became a glowing ball of
Love and light.

Then the wind changed .
A storm was coming
The faun gave the butterfly a wink
They both knew . Find shelter.

The faun never feared the storm again .
For it may not be tomorrow or the day after
But sure as the butterfly will change form
He will have his moment again

The quiet moment
The one where the world makes sense.

Moon and Star
By Jodie

A half moon and a star
Shining so bright,
I imagine YOU
Behind the light !

The Gift
By Aunty Sam

The gift you have given
is the knowledge
of Now
and nothing to be wasted.

Your life was a joy
Thankyou for all we shared.
